This is a super cool, somewhat scary (lol - I'm afraid of reptiles), yet sensational Vintage genuine Alligator purse. Made in Florida in the 1950's- it doesn't get much more Original or Authentic than this special piece. Even though I will never be like the amazing Steve Irwin and want to hug a gator - I still have immense respect for their fierce personalities and phenomenal strength. They are both feared and revered.
This rare and unique handbag may be a little bit intense for some, but I see it as a testament to the beauty that is this powerful and important reptile. I don't think you could find something like this today - obviously this came from a different era - but it speaks to the craftsmanship and culture of the Florida Everglades. It is "different," a little wild, but yet couture - it is an "outside-the-box" fashion statement that draws attention and conversation.
It is in gorgeous condition - the lining is a bright cherry red leather with a zippered pocket. The bottom has 4 gold-toned "feet" to keep it from being damaged when it is set down. There is some gentle Vintage age wear, but no obvious imperfections that take away from it's look or design.
It measures approximately 11 1/2" and 7 1/2" tall. 3" wide - the strap has a several snaps to adjust for size, but at its longest "drop" it is about 15 1/2" long.
