For your enjoyment a beautiful example of a bisque head made by Simon & Halbig in Germany. This is the Simon & Halbig mold 1079 which was first registered in 1892 and was made through the early 1900's. She is a large doll at 32 inches and is on a Kestner body. The body looks to be an early body with straight wrists designed to emulate the French Bebe's of the 1890's. The body is very heavy with the upper thighs carved out of a solid piece of wood. She has set glass eyes with pierced ears. The body has been restrung and was restored and repainted. The neck socket was padded out to make the Simon & Halbig fit properly. The head has the early marks high on the head mostly covered by the wig. This helps hide the fact it is a German doll in the era where French dolls commanded a price premium.
She is wearing and antique child's dress and slip. The dress is very fine gauzy Egyptian cotton and lace. It has some mends and small spots but still displays well. The slip is in better condition but does have some thin spots in the material. The bloomers, shoes and socks are new. The wig is also a modern replacement. The ribbon inserts in the dress have also been replaced with vintage ribbon.
