For your enjoyment an interesting example of an antique bisque head doll made by Eitenne Denamur in France. This doll represents a wonderful example of French bisque head doll making from the late 1890's. The doll has a German head made by Simon & Halbig. It is their 1079 mold which was first registered in 1892 and was made through the early 1900's. In this time period many French makers bought heads from Simon & Halbig when their own kilns could not produce enough heads to meet demand.
The Paper Mache body is a unique design first used by Denamur in the 1890's and latter used by SFBJ in the 1920's. The body is very distinctive and is not often seen. The doll has dark (almost pupil-less) sleep eyes with pierced ears. The eyes tend to stick in the half closed position. I have packed the head so the eyes stay in the open position so I am listing her as having set eyes. If you are handy and want to work on the eye mechanism you can probably get them to sleep normally. She has a replaced wig and is wearing a vintage dress with a cute little apron. She has a vintage slip and a pair of newer bloomers. She has pair of vintage shoes and new knit socks.
The doll is 19 inches tall
The head is marked as follows: S & H . 1079 DEP Germany 8
Condition of Doll for Sale
The bisque head has a repair to the top of the rim over the left ear. There are two hairlines radiating from the repair. One goes over the forehead over the left eye and the other goes down in front of the ear (see pictures). The body has its original finish with no cracks or crazing,. There is a repair to some damage on the butt and minor repainting in other areas. The hands have some paint wear and the edges of the joints have some paint chipping. The clothes are in good shape with no foxing or repairs. There are some small holes and stains on the dress.
Note: For bisque head dolls I use USPS "Special Handling Fragile" service which provides separate handling for packages. The charge is $11.15 which is added to the insurance charge in the Ruby Lane shipping summary. I feel this extra charge is appropriate to insure trouble free shipping of your fragile purchases.
The doll may have wear and flaws seen in used dolls. I try to describe significant flaws in my text and show them in picture. Read the text and examine the pictures to be sure you understand the dolls condition. If you have questions please email me.
