This is a wonderful parian head doll made in Germany by Alt Beck & Gottschalk (ABG) around 1881. The doll is referred to as Empress Augusta Victoria of Schleswig-Holstein and was made to commemorate her marriage to the king of Prussia in 1881. She is also often referred to as the "The Iron Cross Lady". She has molded blonde curly hair with a black dotted headband. She has blue eyes, nice rosy cheeks and pierced ears. She only has one earring. She has a shoulder plate with a molded ruffled collar and gold trimmed black iron cross necklace. She is on an antique replacement body. The body is from her era but has been added at some point in the past. The body has brown leather hands to make it appear the doll is wearing gloves. There appears to be remnants of the original body still attached to he head. From my research on this doll it appears that most auctions of this doll were on replacement bodies.
She is wearing an antique slip, chemise and bloomers. She also has a newer over slip and a very well made replacement dress with a tag saying "hand made by Ruth". The outfit consists of a skirt with a separate jacket. She has a pair of newer replacement shoes. She is wearing red socks that are sewn on to the body. I felt the lower legs and there does not seen to be any major issues with the lower legs of the body.
Layaway is possible on this doll. Please contact me for details.
The doll is 19 1/2 inches tall
The ABG association is based on recent research by Mary Gorham Krombholz documented in her book A Pictorial Reference Guide for German Chinas.
