This is a magnificent Alt Beck & Gottschalk (ABG) china head doll made in Germany in the early 1890's. The head has blond (Cafe Au Lait) molded hair in a Highland Mary hair style popular in the early 1890's. She is on an antique gusseted kid body with cloth feet. She has replacing arms. The bisque hands appear to be antique with newer cloth upper arms.
She is wearing an amazing replacement dress and underwear set. The outfit was hand made for her using vintage and antique fabric and trims including the buttons. The set starts with a union suit encompassing a one piece chemise and bloomers. An under slip and a bustle train button onto the union suit. An over slip with trim matching the dress goes on next. A jacket with trim matching the dress comes next and makes up the sleeves of the dress. The over dress has cap sleeves and rich bands of trim on the skirt. She also has a pair of handmade leather shoes. .
The doll is 23 inches tall
The head is unmarked. The ABG association is based on recent research by Mary Gorham Krombholz documented in her book A Pictorial Reference Guide for German Chinas.
