Description of Gretchen Doll for Sale
This is a fantastic small antique character doll made in Germany by Kammer & Reinhardt in the early 1900's. Gretchen was part of a series of character faced dolls Kammer & Reinhardt produced. Gretchen has a pouty pensive look.. When they were made they were less popular than the cheaper mass produced dolls from other makers. Because relatively few were made they are immensely popular with collectors today. Marie is on a simple 5 piece composition body with painted shoes and socks. She has her original very full mohair wig. The dress is antique and may be original to her. She has no underwear.
The head is marked K (STAR) R // 114
Condition of Doll for Sale
The bisque head is perfect with no chips, cracks or repaint There are some rubs on the right cheek and the bridge of the nose. The bisque is very fine and smooth with some shine. The studio lights interact with the smooth skin to exaggerate the rubs some. The close-up picture was taken with natural light and more closely approximates the true appearance of the rubs
The body has it's original factory finish with red lines. The finish though, has some chipping and cracking on the torso and around the neck. . There is also some paint wear on the legs. The antique dress is in good shape but has some yellowing and staining.
The doll may have wear and flaws seen in used dolls. I try to describe significant flaws in my text and show them in picture. Read the text and examine the pictures to be sure you understand the dolls condition. If you have questions please email me.
