Description of Kestner Doll for Sale

Here is a beautiful example of an antique doll made in Germany by J. D, Kestner. This doll is 31 inches tall and is on a fully jointed composition body. The body is marked Heinrich Handwerck. Kestner did make bodies but during this time period could not keep up with production and as many companies did would purchase bodies from other makers. For this reason I am assuming the body is original to the doll but it is hard to be sure. In any case the body is appropriate for a doll of this quality.

The doll has it's original hand tied human hair wig and remnants of the original plaster pate. She has glass sleep eyes with intact lashes. The head has molded lashes and has an open mouth with inset teeth. She is wearing antique / vintage clothes consisting of a dress, full slip and bloomers. While they at minimum vintage pieces it is hard to say they are original to her. She also has a pair of antique leather baby shoes. The shoes fit her feet but her calves are too big to allow the shoes to be buttoned.

Marks

The head is marked as follows:
Made in // Germany // M 1/2  16 1/2 // 164

The body is marked as follows:
Heinrich Handwerck // Germany // 6 1/2

Condition of Doll for Sale

The bisque head is perfect with no chips, cracks, rubs or repaint. The wax on the eyes is intact and undamaged as are the eyelashes. The body has its original finish but has several areas of filling and repainting mainly on the joints and a large area of filling on the back of the neck socket. There is also an area on the chest where the paint is cracked because of an impact to the upper chest, The composition is flattened a little in this area. There are no broken fingers or toes. The hands are a little dirty but have their original red-lines with no sign of repainting. The toes have some paint wear on the tips. The antique clothes are in good shape with no foxing, stains or repairs. The bloomers have a big rip in the cut work on the bottom of one leg
