Description of ABG doll for Sale
I have a great example of a German turned head French fashion style doll from the 1880's. This French fashion styled doll is 22 inches tall and was made in Germany by Alt Beck and Gottschalck (ABG). The doll has a turned head shoulder plate with a closed head. She has set glass eyes. The doll is on a French styled gusseted kid body with bisque hands. The kid leather of the body is in good shape and is not stained or brittle. There are some patches on the knees and hips. I have checked the patches and they are tight and the joints are not leaking sawdust.
The doll has been redressed in a well made dress with a fur stole and a hat decorated with silk flowers. The style of the dress is more from the early 1900's. The dress is made using vintage and antique materials. The dress is sewn on and it is not clear if it was made recently or is a vintage redress. The dress is very well made and was obviously made for the doll.
Because of the tightly glued wig and sewn on cloths I was not able to see any marks on the head. Sometimes this head is unmarked and other times there are mold and size numbers. The identification of this doll was done based on the distinctive face molding and the fact it is a closed head which is predominantly seen on this ABG doll.

The bisque head is perfect with no chips, cracks, rubs or repaint. The kidskin body has some patches on the knee, crotch and hip gussets. The kid material is soft and supple. I have checked the patches on the body and have insured they are well attached and that the body is not leaking sawdust. The antique clothes are in good shape with no foxing, stains, rips or repairs.
