Description of Kestner 220 Doll for Sale

Here is one of the cutest examples of an antique Kestner 220 bisque head toddler doll I have ever seen. He is 18 inches tall and was made in Germany by J. D. Kestner around 1912. The Kestner 220 is part of the Kestner character doll 200 series that included the ever popular Hilda. The Kestner 220 mold is seen almost exclusively on slant hip toddler bodies. The 220 mold is rarer than the typical Kestner Hilda doll. There are no records documenting why the 220 is so rare. The fact it is only seen on one body type may mean it was a special production for some important Kestner customer. The 220 mold always has the finest bisque with the best face painting details Kestner can provide. He has glass sleep eyes with an open mouth with 2 inset porcelain teeth.

This doll is wearing an over the top Little Lord Fauntleroy outfit. The outfit is a vintage replacement that was professionally made for him. It was made using appropriate vintage materials and trims. The striped velvet material is in good condition. The jacket is lined and the shirt is made with fine all cotton material dressed up with lace trim. The outfit fits him to a tee and was likely made to measure for him. He is also wearing vintage black socks and tie shoes.

He is in near mint condition with his original wig, pate and original finish on his antique composition slant hip toddler body. The antique body is well molded with the fat rolls you expect in a happy toddler. He is wearing his original mohair wig. The wig is a little short and is thinning in the back. See the slide show for details on the wig. It works well under the cap. When I got him there was some paint chipping on one hand where the hand meets the ball part of the joint. I filled this area and repainted the joint area. There was no repaint needed on the hand or fingers. I also had to reset the sleep eyes in the head. I was able to reattach the antique Kestner plaster pate loosely. I can remove the pate to pack the head if I have to ship him.
