Description of Doll for Sale
This is a nice example of a vintage felt doll in the style of a Lenci doll from the 1930's. Lenci started making dolls in felt after the first world war and continued up to the 1980's. The early dolls from the 20's and 30's are hard to find in good condition. The wool felt is easily soiled, fades easily, and is subject to moth damage. Because of their success many companies started making felt dolls in the Lenci style. This doll was made by Alma one of the imitators of Lenci.
This doll is from the 1930's and has good color with no moth damage. This doll is made in Italy by Alma and is 19 inches tall. It is a very good imitation of a vintage Lenci doll. I have copies of Lenci catalogs from the 20's and 30's and one of them shows a Lenci boy wearing an outfit that is a close match to the outfit on this boy. Alma even went to the extent of using 3 holed buttons which was a Lenci trademark. He is in great condition with no wear or soiling on the body and clothes which is seldom found on a vintage felt doll which is 80+ years old.
The vest is tagged with an Alma label as shown:
