Description of Doll for Sale

I am pleased to have for sale an antique French TETE Jumeau doll from the late 1880's. The doll was made in France by Jumeau using a head that they contracted Simon & Halbig to fire for them. The antique body has a ink stamp "Jumeau Medaille d'Or Paris" in celebration of the gold metal Jumeau won in the Paris Exposition of 1878. This stamp was used up to 1891 when it was replaced with a paper label with different wording. This doll is often referred to as a DEP Jumeau because the head was made in Germany and is marked DEP to comply with French import laws. The doll has set glass eyes.

This Tete Jumeau is a big doll measuring 30 - 31 inches tall. She has an antique dress and hat. The dress and hat is likely an antique child's dress as it seems to be just a little large for her. The antique silk in the dress is starting to degrade with some rips and flaking in the sleeves. There are no major rips in the rest of the dress but all of the silk is showing signs of becoming fragile. The antique lace trim on the dress is sound and could possibly be reused if you wanted to remake the dress at a latter date.

This Tete Jumeau is wearing a set of underwear which consists of a full slip, a flannel half slip and a pair of bloomers. The full slip and the bloomers match and are made from fine antique cotton cut-work material. The underwear fit her perfectly but appear to be made for her from a cut down of antique adults underwear. It is not clear when they were made, She is also wearing antique shoes and socks with pompoms. The shoes fit her perfectly and are likely original to the doll. She has a good quality replacement human hair wig.

Condition of Doll for Sale

The bisque head is perfect with no chips, cracks, rubs or repaint. The composition body has its original finish. The paint on the arms and hands has darkened and has numerous chips. There are no missing or replaced fingers but a couple of them have cracks and may have been re-glued.
One shoulder joint has been repaired. The repair is sound and the joint works smoothly. The soles of both shoes are worn with parts especially on the toes missing.
The antique clothes are in good shape with no foxing, stains or repairs. The antique silk in the dress is starting to degrade with some rips and flaking in the sleeves. There are no major rips in the rest of the dress but all of the silk is showing signs of becoming fragile.
