Description of Doll for Sale
This is a beautiful example of an antique one piece all bisque figure of a seated Kewpie with outstretched arms as though about to capture a yellow chick at his side. This Kewpie action figure has his classic topknot and forelock curls with side-glancing eyes which are glazed to give them a little sparkle. Kewpie has the little blue wings that make him a Kewpie. Kewpie was made in Germany around 1913 and copyrighted by Rose O'Neill. This is the first true Kewpie with chick made along with a Kewpie with a bunny as an Easter set.
Please note that this is a tiny piece. This Kewpie action figure measures 1 and 3/4 inches to the top of his top knot and 1 and 3/4 inches from the tail of the chick to his left toe.
This Kewpie is not to be confused with the salt and pepper version similar to this one but glazed or to the latter vintage version where Kewpie has his knee up and the arms are molded into the body and to the chick.
The piece is unmarked. Most Kewpie action figures had paper labels with the country of origin and the Rose O'Neill copy right information on them. Usually the label is lost.
Condition of Doll for Sale
The bisque head is perfect with no chips, cracks or repairs. The arms and the chick are original and have not been broken or repaired. There are some minor kiln specks often seen in antique porcelain pieces and other marks that may come off with a more vigorous cleaning.
