This is an September 16, 1867 original parchment contract for "Acknowledgements of Deeds by Married Women pursuant the Reign of His late Majesty King William the Fourth". It is an excellent example of the very early beginnings of the establishment of rights for women and children, and will be especially of interest to people interested in the suffragette movement.

This contract is between Agnes Leopard and John Leopard. The codes of 1857 and 1860 each provided that the husband could not remove the wife, nor their children, from their ... Deeds of real estate and must be signed by both husband and wife, but no private examination of either has ever been required. This two page legal document has elaborate cursive calligraphy in ink and witnessed by Pinfold Medwin and Lawrence Smith, Commissioners in Sussex.

Let us help you make your own precious memories and with this interesting women's rights, September 16, 1867 original parchment contract. It will make an interesting gift for your sweet self or a very special friend. Thank you for visiting our store
