Mid-Century 9 1/2" Gofun Ichimatsu Young Girl Japanese Doll

This is a sweet mid-century 9 1/2" Gofun Ichimatsu young Girl doll is made from oyster shell and glue. She has a red and gilt polyester robe over a red flowered voile kimono and a yellow obe. Her bisque child's body has bent legs. She has a bright red Kabuki mouth and brown glass almond-shaped eyes. She is in good condition with a hidden repair on her right ear.

Kabuki actors specialized in female roles, Ichimatsu dolls are an Edo era invention. They portray little Japanese girls and boys in their holiday silk kimonos and are sometimes commissioned by the rich as portraits of their children. The dolls are display objects.
