Lady's Hand-Woven Beige Straw Modified Bowler Hat Embellished with Colored Straw Flowers and a beige ribbon hat band and front bow.
Traditionally, a bowler is hard felt hat with a rounded crown. Sometimes it is known as a bob hat, derby, billycock or bombín hat. The narrow, brim is typically curled up on the sides of the hat. Originally made for the Coke brothers by London hat-makers Thomas and William Bowler in 1849, today bowler hats for women are also made of straw or covered in fabric.
Our 'Princess Anukampa' is a beige-colored modified bowler hat. The narrow brim is turned down and cuddles the lucky wearer's face in cloche fashion. It is 21" in circumference, 6" high, 8 1/2" long x 6 1/2" wide. It is made of hand-woven beige straw with a matching matte ribbon band and front bow. It is embellished with woven multicolored straw flowers with green leaves and stems. Although there is no label, it was probably woven on a Caribbean Island in the 1950s or 60s. This vintage beauty has some minor age but is overall in very good condition. Please be careful in measuring for this adorable chapeau.
