This is an elegant poseable unfired clay vintage clay, 8" tall while sitting, lady doll from India. She has the red painted feet and hands of the Bharatanatyam dancer. She is likely from Krishnanagar in the Indian state of West Bengal. She is beautifully hand-crafted and painted. While she is in very good condition, her age is uncertain but she appears to be early to mid 20th century.
She has a stuffed cloth body and a cafe au lait colored clay face, arms, and legs. She has a hand-stitched violet dancing outfit with a brocade patterned tunic top trimmed with gold thread ribbon, plain trousers, and a light voile gilt-trimmed shawl. She has chandelier brass colored metal and pearl earrings, a medallion necklace, ankle jewels and brass and silver colored wrist bangles. She has a beautifully painted face with a pierced nose and real black hair. There are minor chips in the paint on her feet, her costume has fading, and her shawl is fragile.
This exotic beauty would be an excellent addition to any collection. We invite you to make your own precious memories with this darling doll. Thank you for visiting our store.
