(First American Edition) Translated from the French of Jules Verne. (Edition of James R. Osgood & Co.) Sold Only by Subscription. Boston: Geo. M. Smith & Co., 1874. It is 8" x 5 1/2" and has 303 pages. It has its original green cloth cover decorated in gilt and black. This is Verne's famous tale of Captain Nemo and the submarine Nautilus. This binding properly reads "...UNDER THE SEAS" and has Captain Nemo using a sextant on the front cover.
The gilt page edges are worn and the leaves bulk about 1-5/8" thick. On the final page of text, there is "THE END." This is a bright although aged copy with the original dark brown endpapers of this hefty volume still entirely intact. The cover of this wonderful treasure is worn and has some edge and spine damage and corner bumps. The book is solidly intact but has some minor foxing and other page smudges.
