Originating from the USA this stunning vintage ring has hand engraved detailing to the shoulders in the form of wheat shafts and to the open and raised mount in the form of swirls and curls. The Old Cut Diamond measures 2.75 mm with an estimated carat weight of 0.11 carats. The square cut Sapphire measures 3mm with an estimated carat weight of 0.22 carats The head measures 1.1cm x 4.5mm
Diamond Clarity & Cut: The diamond may not be large but it certainly makes up for it in colour and clarity. Exceptionally white with good transparency and all facets easily observed and provides strong refraction (Fire/Sparkle) even by window light. Like all diamonds, it sparkles the most under electric lights. True to its cut it has a faceted Culet (point) wide pavilion facets, tall crown and small table facet. When viewed with a 10 x loupe (Magnifying device) I struggle to find any obvious inclusions in the diamond and estimate it as a G/H colour with VS clarity. The sapphire is natural with a green/blue hue to it when held up to window light. There are some very tiny natural crystal inclusions found upon inspection with a 10 x loupe which validates it is natural and not synthetic. It has very good transparency unlike most sapphires which tend be almost black and practically opaque.
All of my photos and videos are shot using natural light only. (Window light) so to show the diamonds true colour. The use of LED and flash lights in photos bleach diamonds an artificial "white" which is why I avoid using them. As always, the diamonds have been tested for authenticity with two electronic diamond testers.
Condition: The white gold shank is in very good condition with no signs of thinning to the back. No restoration work required to the white gold filigree mount or engraving. The diamond and Sapphire are securely set and in good order with the sapphire having very minor surface abrasions only visible under magnification. The beauty of old English white gold is that unlike modern white gold it never needs Rhodium plating. This is due to different alloys being used in white gold back in the day than what are used in modern white gold. This ring is decades old and needed nothing more than a clean and polish to restore it to the colour and shine you see in the photos.
Two Stone Rings: As an engagement ring the two stones can be made to represent many things. While it symbolises love and friendship, a two stone diamond ring can also represent endurance of the relationship between husband and wife. Two stones can also symbolise “us”- the very bond of a couple who sees themselves as both friends and lovers. It is also meant to represent the two partners in a committed relationship. It is basically a ring to celebrate love and friendship and to emphasise the dual nature of your bond.
Sapphires: The sapphire is the represents for the month of September. The name sapphire is derived from the Latin word ““saphirus” and the Greek word “sappheiros,” both meaning blue. The sapphire is a corundum, an aluminium oxide with a trigonal crystal structure, in the same family as the ruby. The only difference between a ruby and a sapphire is simply the colour. A red corundum is a ruby. Other coloured corundums are called sapphires, which come in many colours, the most well known being blue. Because sapphires are available in so many colours, they are the most important and versatile of all the gemstones. Rubies and sapphires are said to be prized just under the level of diamonds because of their hardness. Diamonds are listed as a ten in terms of hardness, sapphires as a nine. The attribute of hardness of the sapphire makes it a perfect choice for jewellery that needs to stand up to everyday wear, such as in rings or bracelets. The gem’s inclusions reflect light that yields a faint sheen referred to as “silk.” The most transparent, colourless variety of sapphires are known as “Leucosapphire.” Some have streaks of pale colour inside, some have that slightly silky sheen and in strong light, their colour intensifies. Sapphires are usually given round or oval cuts but rectangular or square cuts are also possible.
