Circa 1920 vintage GLOSSY FINISH real photo stereo view of the shoreline in Algiers, with businesses, railroad tracks, foot and wagon traffic along the front of the wall in the foreground, with the Kasbah (or Casbah), Arab Quarter and Moslem mosque extending up the hill in the background.

Algiers (Arabic: al-Jazā'er), situated on the west side of a bay of the Mediterranean Sea, is the capital and largest city of Algeria. The present-day city was founded in 944 by Bologhine ibn Ziri, the founder of the Berber Zirid–Sanhaja dynasty.

From a distance, the glistening white buildings appear to be rising up from the sea. The modern part of the city is built on the level ground by the seashore. The Casbah (or Kasbah) is the steep hill rising 400 feet above the sea, behind the modern town - specifically the citadel or fortress of Algiers crowning the top and the "Arab Quarter" clustered around it. Many visitors to the Kasbah of Algiers are overwhelmed by the hundreds of narrow streets that wind through the Arab Quarter, which can best be described as a "labyrinth".

Curve-mounted view negative #17077T published by Keystone View Company of Meadville PA; New York City; Chicago; and London. Undated Keystone copyright. Text on the back is also copyrighted by Keystone.

3-D EFFECT: The 3-D effect, particularly of the horse, rail and foot traffic in the foreground is exceptional.

PHOTO NOTE: The actual images are albumen (sepia toned) real photos with a GLOSSY finish. The bright area at the top of both photos is a reflection of the photo flash on the glossy finish. Both photos are clean, crisp, sharp and in good condition - and the actual images are MUCH sharper through a stereo viewer than they appear in the scanned and photo images. Small age-related surface scratches and wear marks that are almost completely imperceptible in the viewer, are accentuated by the photographing process.

CONDITION NOTE: Card is in good condition with two slight creases on the front on either side of the photos. BOTH PHOTOS ARE UNDAMAGED. The back has two cracks extending across the margins on each side. Both cracks have been repaired and reinforced; as a result the card is sound with no instability along either crack.
