Shaker Society Mount Lebanon Village Community hand-crafted vintage 19th Century antique wooden bucket - red bucket 9" high and 12" diameter - from the Mount Lebanon, New York Shaker Community, with a peg and sap bung for collecting maple sap at sugaring time in the Spring.
This bucket shows evidence of frequent use. The original white paint on the inside has mellowed to a great yellow patina, with stains on the bottom and wear on the sides. The outside is in very nice condition with old red paint. The brown wooden handle grip is blackened on the lower surface from carrying by many hands. Very clean diamond echelons firmly hold the wire handle in place.
One of several selected items from a private Shaker collection from Lenox, MA (about 10 miles from the Hancock, MA Shaker Community) sold at auction in Mt Lebanon, NY in 2002.
