Standard-sized early 20th C Whitney Made Easter Greeting postcard with pastel colored embossed chromolithograph Art Deco image of boy and girl, Easter Eggs in hat and an Easter poetry greeting on the front. Hand-written Easter greeting on the back. Not stamped or posted.
On the back is the "Whitney Made, Worcester Mass." logo of Whitney Valentine Company (1866-1942), a company owned by Edward and George Whitney. As German quality chromolithograph postcards became more popular in the Unities States, some American publishers, including the Whitneys, began using chromolithography to manufacture quality postcards in America, rather than import them from Germany. Whitneys started with a line of Valentines Day postcards and greeting cards that remained very popular through the 1940's. Most of the artwork on Whitney's postcards is unsigned, but Whitney employed many popular artists of the time, and Whitney postcards have become highly collectible.
PHOTO NOTE: The photos distort the clarity of the images and sometimes the intensity of the colors. The muted "grainy" look is largely a distortion. In this case, the clarity is much greater and the colors more vivid viewed in person. Minute defects are exaggerated by the scanning process, and some are virtually noticeable when viewed in person.
CONDITION: Standard-sized postcard is in excellent condition for its age, as accurately shown in the photos. Colors are exceptionally bright and images very clear. Tiny spots of surface wear, and corners slightly blunted. The white border around the image is lightly soiled, which is exaggerated in the photos, and much less noticeable in person. Back-side also very slightly soiled. Corners very slightly blunted. ALL FLAWS ARE ACCENTUATED BY THE PHOTOS AND LESS NOTICEABLE IN PERSON.
