Vintage 1920s stand-up Valentine like the ones we used to exchange in grade school - black cat listening with interest to a boy in laced collar and short pants calling his sweetheart with a c1900-1915 candlestick model telephone. Exceptionally high-quality, multi-colored German lithography with wonderful detail. Marked "Made in Germany" on the front, but no other publisher, artist or lithographer marks are visible.
Greeting reads: "Just thought I'd `tell-a-phone' and `tell-a-secret' – You're My VALENTINE!!"
Card measures 4" x 4-1/2" and is made of a heavy un-bleached rag cardboard stock. Stand-up fold-out tab attached to the back.
PHOTO NOTE: The muted grainy nature of the images in the gallery view is a photo distortion. The close-up (magnified) images are more accurate than the gallery views, but the vivid colors appear somewhat muted. The scanning process tends to exaggerate the dots from the lithographic process, creases and small flaws, which are usually much less noticeable when viewed in person.
CONDITION NOTE: The condition of this valentine is excellent for one of this age. There are no separations or tears. There is one very light surface crease across the top that is barely noticeable.
