Exceptionally fine c1910 Religious Christmas Nativity postcard with brilliant color chromolithograph, heavily accented with bright gold. Image is that of Baby Jesus in a manger watched over by the Virgin Mary and Joseph. Christmas Greeting is in the Polish language. This exquisite card is far more beautiful in person than it appears in the photo!!
Card features exceptionally rich shiny gold accents, trim & lettering and a hard and shiny gelatin surface finish. The halos of Jesus, Mary and Joseph are solid shiny gold as is the lettering of the Christmas greeting. Mary's head-dress and garment, Joseph's robe, Jesus' blanket, the manger and the bowel on the wall are all accented or trimmed with the same shiny gold.
On the back lower left corner are the initials "SB" inside a green - one of the logos of German publisher, S. Bayer of Berlin - followed by the number "21 29". "Printed in Germany" and "Jmport" are printed along the center line. Message in either Polish or Czech is hand-written in ink.
PHOTO NOTE: The BRIGHT SHINY GOLD accents do not show-up well in this photo. Photos also distort the clarity of the images and sometimes the intensity of the colors. The muted "grainy" look is a distortion. The surface is actually glossy, and the colors are more vivid and the clarity greater when viewed in person. Minute defects are exaggerated by the scanning process, and many are barely noticeable when viewed in person.
CONDITION: Exquisite color and gold accents. Standard-sized postcard in excellent condition. NO folds or creases. What appears as thin lines are actually craquelure in the glossy gelatin finish. All flaws are more noticeable in the photos than in person. Exceptionally clean. Corners only very slightly damaged. Light age discoloration on the back. ALL FLAWS ARE OBVIOUS IN THE PHOTOS.
