c1929 traditional Christmas greeting American-made vintage postcard -fine color chromolithograph of a little girl child in white knit hat, red leather vest, leather short pants, and Mary-jane shoes, with a basket of gifts, and sprigs of holly. Very simple Christmas greeting. A wonderful image!
"Wolf & Co." is in very small print in the lower left corner, and "Made in U.S.A." is in the lower right. The message on the back is in Polish or Czech, addressed to a Norwich CT address. Blurred postmark from Norwich CT's Preston Station mailed on December 23, 1929.
Publisher Wolf & Co. (1879-1931), of Philadelphia, PA, was founded by the brothers Edward, Isaac, and Gustave Wolf, who were well known for their advertising work in chromolithography as well as fancy embossing and as a large publisher of holiday and greeting cards. The famous postcard artist Ellen H. Clapsaddle was hired by Wolf & Co., in 1906 as a full time illustrator. This is not signed but may be Clapsaddle artwork .
PHOTO NOTE: The photos distort the clarity of the images and sometimes the intensity of the colors. The muted "grainy" look is a distortion. The colors are more vivid and the clarity greater when viewed in person. Minute defects are exaggerated by the scanning process, and many are barely noticeable when viewed in person.
CONDITION: Standard-sized postcard is good condition for its age. Light crease to the upper right corner, some damage along the left edge, soiled spots and stains scattered around the margins, as well as light tan age discoloration, all of which are more noticeable in the photos than in person. Corners are slightly blunted. ALL FLAWS ARE OBVIOUS IN THE PHOTOS.
