c1910 standard-sized UNUSED postcard with brilliantly colored high-gloss chromolithograph image of Victorian children carrying a little girl in a large basket of wildflowers, published by E. A Schwerdtfeger & Co., of Berlin, Germany. The greeting is in CZECH (sometimes referred to as BOHEMIAN) - one of the Slavic family of languages. According to one translator site, the English translation is a "A Heartfelt Wish".
In the front lower left corner is one of the logos used by E.A. Schwerdtfeger & Co., of Berlin, Germany - a heart-shaped figure with the initials "EAS" inside. On the back is "Printed in Germany". The card is unused.
Schwerdtfeger was established in 1894, and published calendars, glanzbilder, hand-colored real photo postcards on bromide paper, and glycerin coated greeting cards, such as this one. EAS also opened a London, England office and a New York office in 1910, but all their cards were printed in Berlin, Germany. Their factory suffered severe damage during World War Two but they reopened to become one of Germany's largest greeting card companies.
PHOTO NOTE: The photos distort the clarity of the images and sometimes the intensity of the colors. The muted "grainy" look is a distortion. The colors are more vivid and the clarity greater when viewed in person. Minute defects are exaggerated by the scanning process, and many are barely noticeable when viewed in person.
CONDITION: Unused standard-sized postcard in excellent condition for its age. Surface is hi-gloss gelatin coated finish. Colors are exceptionally bright and images are very clear. There are no tears, folds or other major damage. The corners are very slightly blunted, and there are some spots of chipping and surface blemishes around the edges. There is one flaw in the finish in the upper left corner, which appears original to the printing. The back has light age discoloration, and a few soiled spots. ALL FLAWS ARE OBVIOUS IN THE PHOTOS.
