Graves Real Photo View - Universal Photo Art Co.

Wonderful 1892 rare real photo stereo view - African American and White boys together on the streets of Camden, New Jersey. In the background is a large dated broad side poster advertising an excursion to Stockton Park sponsored by the C. R. Hubert Republican Club. The outing featured musical entertainment, including Professor Forman's Orchestra. The cost of admission – only $0.25!

At the time Camden was an industrial and commercial leader manufacturing hundreds of products, and was the home of the Campbell Soup Company.

The Republican Party dominated Camden politics from the 1870s through 1935. Prior to merging with Camden in 1899, Stockton as a separate town, comprised of what is now known as Cramer Hill and East Camden.

Great late 1890s remarkably historic plain backed stereo view by photographer C.H. Graves, and sold by Universal Art Co. of Philadelphia.

PHOTO NOTE: The actual albumen (sepia toned) real photo images are clean, crisp, sharp and in good condition. Curved cards do not always scan or photo well. The close-up view is sharper than the gallery view, and the actual images viewed through a stereo viewer are EVEN sharper than they appear in the photo images. Occasional spotting on the clothing and light scratches across both pictures near card center are imperceptible through the stereo viewer and accentuated by the photo process. Bright spots are reflections from the camera flash, and do not appear on the actual photos.

3-D EFFECT: The 3-D effect of the boys on the street is pronounced.

CARD CONDITION: Great condition – no bends or folds or paper loss. Light soiling on the paper stock from handling, and some damage on the extreme borders and corners caused by inserting it in the stereo viewer.
