c1938 New York City vintage EARLY George Washington Bridge Keystone real photo stereo view - from the Manhattan end looking towards New Jersey. This view is earlier than most of the GW Bridge views you will see. Notice that the the lower deck has not yet been built, and not all lanes on the upper deck are in use. Notice also the detail of the vintage 1930s canvas-covered delivery truck on the bridge.
Designed by architect Othmar Ammann, this architectural landmark was opened in 1931 by Governors Franklin D. Roosevelt of New York and Morgan F. Larson of New Jersey. For six years, it was the world's longest suspension bridge, until San Francisco's Golden Gate Bridge was completed in 1937.
Lengthy paragraph on the back has statistics on the George Washington suspension bridge. Curve mounted negative #34084 published and copyright by the Keystone View Company of Meadville, Pennsylvania; New York City; Chicago and London England.
PHOTO NOTE: The photo images are clean, crisp, very sharp and in near mint condition - in the viewer the images are even sharper than they appear in the scanned image. Tiny surface scratches and nicks around the edges (if any) are accentuated by the scanning process and are imperceptible in the viewer. A letter or two of the text on back have been scuffed through use.
3-D EFFECT: The 3-D effect of the bridge against the skyline background is exceptionally fine.
