Boston & Albany Railroad (New York Central Railroad Co., Lessee ) “Safety Rules” - a 20-page booklet containing safety rules for operating department employees effective November 15, 1939, with updated rule inserts.

Operational employee areas covered in this Safety Rule booklet include Engine, Train and Yard Employees; Station Men; Shop Employees; Linemen and Signal Employees; Track, Bridge and Building Employees; and Employees in Electrified Territory. Inserted inside the back cover is “The Six Fundamental Rules Requisite to Safety Success” of the New York Central Railroad System.

In 1939 the Boston and Albany Railroad (since 1900 operated as part of the New York Central Railroad System under a ninety-nine year lease with one of its predecessor companies) was providing passenger and freight service between Boston, Massachusetts and Albany, New York, and for intervening mainline cities, as well as numerous branch line cities and towns. The line is still used by CSX for freight and by Amtrak for passenger service as part of its Lake Shore Limited service.

Stapled 22-page booklet measures 5-3/4"x 4-3/4".

PHOTO NOTE: The washed out texture of the images is a distortion of the scanning and photographic processes used, which frequently alter the sharper textures of the images on the actual card. The photo and scans also exaggerate the prominence of lightly soiled spots, as well as the size and texture of what are actually small creases and flaws, all of which are much less noticeable in person.

CONDITION NOTE: LOOK AT PHOTOS CAREFULLY. This booklet is in excellent condition for its age - complete, tightly bound with clean staples, and with heavy card-stock cover and all pages firmly attached. The inside pages are in great condition – light beige in color, supple and undamaged. Inserts firmly attached on at least one end. Page corners may be blunted and/or lightly dog-eared, and edges show light usage and occasional lightly soiled spots. No tears or hard creases in the pages or covers. PHOTOS ARE REPRESENTATIVE OF CONDITION. ALL COVER DEFECTS ARE VISIBLE IN THE PHOTO.
