2 vintage c1936 baby girl birthday satin-finish greeting cards published by Rust Craft Greeting Card Company of Boston. Delicate, finely-drawn images of baby girls – one in a pink dress sitting in her walker with her bunny rabbit – the other in her pajamas with pink coverlet on her bed. The artwork on both is unsigned, but is clearly top notch. Birthday messages inside are written in rhyming couplets. Cards are both signed by the sender.
The Rust Craft Greeting Card Company was began in 1906 by Fred Rust (1877?-1949) in Kansas City, Missouri. After Rust moved the business to Boston in 1914, it expanded its line to include greeting cards, puzzles, book marks, books, postcards, and book plates. In the 1950s Rust Craft relocated to Dedham, Massachusetts, and in 1981 it merged with the Norcross Company.
Both backs are marked "Copyright Rust Craft Boston U. S. A." One also has the numbers "10 by 6500" and the other "5BC9455". Larger card is 5-1/2" wide by x 3-1/2" high; the smaller 3-1/2" wide by 3-5/8" high.
PHOTO NOTE: The wavy "shadowy" look is a reflection off the satin finish on these cards. Small defects are exaggerated by the scanning process, and many are barely noticeable when viewed in person. The photos also distort the clarity of the images and sometimes the intensity of the colors. The muted "grainy" look is a distortion. The colors are often more vivid and the clarity greater when viewed in person.
CONDITION NOTE: LOOK CAREFULLY AT THE ATTACHED PHOTOS. Condition is accurately shown. However, cards both have a wavy satin finish, which give the scanned images a shadowy cast. Cards are clean and unsoiled, and both are in excellent - near mint – condition, with wonderfully detailed artwork, and vivid pastel colors. Both are signed by the senders. Cards have no bends, creases or tears. ALL DEFECTS ARE VISIBLE IN THE PHOTO.
