Rare 1951 Christmas unused greeting card - 6" x 5" suitable for framing - features "The Little King" cartoon comic strip character in brilliant three-color lithography. Created and drawn by famous American cartoonist Otto Soglow, The Little King comic strip is notable for its mostly pantomime comic style – the strip uses images with virtually no dialog; the title character never speaks.

The Little King comic strip first appeared in 1931 in The New Yorker magazine. Beginning in 1933, it was syndicated by Kings Features Syndicate for William Randolph Hearst's Sunday newspapers, and first published in comic book issues. In 1933-1934, the character was also licensed for a series of animated cartoons, and featured in an advertising campaign for Standard Oil. The cartoonist Soglow was awarded the 1966 National Cartoonists Society Reuben Award for the Little King Cartoon strip, and it continued to run until Soglow's death in 1975.

This greeting card features a whimsical visual joke on the inside along with a traditional Christmas and New Years greeting. On the back is the 1951 copyright by the King Features Syndicate.

Printed on off-white standard fold-over card stock, with a brilliant three-color lithograph image on the cover. No envelope is included.

PHOTO NOTE: The muted grainy nature of the images is a photo distortion, which makes what are actually very vivid colors appear somewhat muted. The scanning process tends to exaggerate the dots from the lithographic process, creases and small flaws, which are usually much less noticeable when viewed in person.

CONDITION NOTE: The condition of this card is excellent. Corners are slightly rounded and there is some wear on the edges. Colors are brilliant. There are no holes or creases, and only a little wear at the middle fold. All defects are clearly visible.
