Alfred Bodderas German Easter Rabbit Chocolate Mold No. 2284 - 4 identical large standing rabbit figural moulds together in one metal frame - stamped with the Bodderas, Erndtbrook name and logo, the mold number 2284, and the number 59. The images are identical stylized Easter bunnies dressed in the classic dress of a Bavarian or Swiss Alpine mountaineer – detailed shirt, bow tie and short jacket, with Alpine style shorts and boots.
Alfred Bodderas, of Erndtbrook, West Germany, manufactured chocolate molds from 1946-1970. These were probably made circa 1950s - 1960s. Clearly a set of high quality vintage molds which we acquired seven years ago as part of a collection of mostly German-made chocolate moulds, some of which are 80 years-old. It is believed that the number "59" represents the year the mold was made – 1959.
These 4-1/2" molds appear to be made of nickel, soldered together in a 6" x 10-1/2" steel frame.
CONDITION NOTE: The interior surfaces have a bright silver finish, and the backs are dull silver-colored. The interiors show spots where the surface appears tarnished. The edges of the frame show some light surface rust. There may also be some exterior wear to the mold surfaces in places. The joints between the molds have some areas of discoloration. However, the few exceptionally small brown spots on the mold surfaces are more than likely chocolate residue, rather than rust. On the whole, the general condition inside and out is extraordinarily good.
