Vintage hand-colored Fred Thompson photograph over a Thompson Art Company oak-framed small rectangular mirror. Identified on the back as a 1917 golf prize presented by the Keene, New Hampshire Country Club.
TACO - for Thompson Art Company - is embossed in the lower left corner of the photo. The backing still has the original paper triangular label, on which is printed "Fred Thompson Pictures - Oddities, No. 150 D Mirror, Thompson Art Company, Portland Maine".
A contemporary of Wallace Nutting, Thompson produced similar hand-colored photos. Thompson" knock-offs" have become collectible in their own right.
The pencil inscription on the back - Golf Championship, 1917, Keene Country Club - dates this to 1917 or earlier.
Photo is of colonial woman sewing by an open hearth fire. Notice the multi-colored woman's dress and braided rugs on the floor. Image is 6-1/4" wide x 4-1/2" high. Combined photo over mirror measure 18" high x 8" wide.
The mirror shows its age; and the oak frame has a few old scratches under the finish. Otherwise, this is in good shape.
