Hardwood Boye Store Advertising Display Case (c1919) for placement in early 20th century dry-goods and general stores is in exceptional condition. This is a finely crafted piece with dovetail joints and a mahogany finish. Manufacturer owned display case has original colored stenciled logo on the front, and the following notice stenciled on the back in the original gold paint: "This Cabinet is owned by the undersigned and loaned for display and sale of "Boye" Brand Merchandise Only. The Boye Needle Company. Chicago. New York. San Francisco."
Founded in 1906, the Boye Needle Company was the first American manufacturer of crochet hooks and knitting needles,and is still in business. Boye sizing has been defined as the U.S. Standard for knitting needles and crochet and is used by yarn companies in making their patterns.
Truly a lovely hardwood piece with original finish and 40+ needles. Contains back compartment for storing extra crochet needle tips. Label on front contains patent date - Pat'd Jan. 14 1919 - Dec. 16, 1919. Needles included are: Three #8 DRITZ, Swiss Made; Six #12 MILWARD, Made in England; Nine #4 Boye; Ten #3 Boye; Eleven #5 Boye, and Two #6 Boye.
Measures 7-1/4" High, Base is 5-1/4" deep x 7-1/2" wide.
