Kailua– Kona, Hawaii, Pompano Beach(1919- 2019)
Artist, university teacher, painter and sculptor his entire life.
Statement of philosophy in his own words.
“My concern is with spiritual and contemplative aspects of man;
to me the special province of art is to create a heightened sense of awareness of that which is aesthetic, beautiful and sustaining; to stimulate the inner self.
I feel attuned to that oriental sense of centering _ _ _ on an object_ _ _ on a quality_ _ _ on a mood, and my subject matter becomes the
vehicle for conveying such aspects.
My images are chosen from nature, often unsung and uncelebrated, and my purpose is to imbue each of my works with restorative qual- ities for the mind: poignancy, wonder, tranquility, respite from stress and turmoil. I do not just paint a red flower; I want that red to arrest the mind, to give it pause for reflection.
It heals the soul.
