A very well detailed alabaster bust of King Frederick the Great, King of Prussia from 1740-1786, by Thomas Seyfarth, Caputh, Germany. The bust stands 7" tall and is in excellent condition. It is numbered "Rg Mo 136" and signed with the artist's initials "TS". There is also the original sticker on the bottom from Seyfarth's Prussian Art Studio in Caputh.
King Frederick II was Prussia's king in the 18th Century. A patron of the arts, music, architecture and philosophy, Frederick the Great drove Prussia into progress and development. His love for architecture founded the design of Sanssouci Palace, his summer residence in Potsdam, which boasts of vast grounds, stunning fountains, great halls and rooms with differing themes, and the incredibly landscaped gardens.
