A circa 1900 French majolica planter in the form of a duck by Delphin Massier, Vallauris, France. The Massier family operated a factory in Vallauris, from the mid 1850's through the early 1900's. The founder, Jacques Massier (1806-1871), trained his sons in the craft and 3 of them - Delphin (1836-1907), Jerome(1820-1909), & Clement (1844-1917) all produced outstanding ceramic works of art and won many awards in the great expositions of Paris , Cannes, and Brussels. This planter is pictured in the Delphin Massier catalog of works that was published around 1900. The planter is is very good condition with bright, vibrant colors and no cracks, breaks, or repairs. There appears to be a tiny glaze miss on the tip of the beak. The bottom of the planter is signed "Delphin Massier" and "Vallauris". The planter measures 7" L x 3 7/8" W x 4 1/2" H.
