DESCRIPTION: This antique Mayonnaise Set is a very charming and versatile piece. The quatrefoil shape features handpainted florals in delicate shades of blue and lavender with touches of green leafy accents. Each piece is accented with gold and gold moriage; there is wear to the gold border edges of all pieces (see photos) and indicate this was a well-loved serving piece at one time.

We don’t often find a complete Mayo Set as pieces break through the years. This lovely set was marked for export to the UK or Europe and made its way to the US intact!

WHY I LIKE IT: Antique serving pieces add history to a moderne table setting and such level of detail is always intriguing. On a summer dining table, I would use this particular Mayo Set to hold a petite floral bouquet (placed inside a 1-1/2” glass vase), grape clusters (on a cheese table), or flavor / sugar packets or small candies (on a dessert table).

BACKSTAMP(S): (Van Patten’s) Mark 180. Nippon (spoke) Maruki Symbol denoting export for UK or Europe.

CIRCA: 1906-1912

DIMENSIONS: Diameter: 6-1/4’ x 4-1/4” (mayo); 7-3/8” x 5-1/8” (underplate)

CONDITION: Very Good with wear to gilt. No chips, cracks, crazing or repairs.

As always, Thank You for visiting ModerneAntiques & Collectibles. Please feel free to email with any questions. - Maureen
