DESCRIPTION: On bone china, this stunning Aynsley Cup and Saucer Set features cobalt blue and gold. Both pieces are accented with a gold border of trailing leaves and fine solid gold band. At the bottom of the cup is a continuation of gold trailing leaves and is brilliant resting against a cobalt blue saucer. The pedestal fluted cup with fancy handle is finely designed and shimmers with glaze and gold.

The Aynsely Company was founded by John Aynsley in 1775, Longton, Staffordshire, England. Upon his death, a grandson of the same name continued the company. Items went unmarked until 1850 when a product mark system originated. In 1971, the company was acquired by Waterford Glass and it became the Aynsley China Ltd. Division. Sold to Belleek Potter Group (Ireland) in 1997, the Aynsley brand continued. Its original factory closed in 2014.

WHY I LIKE IT: My personal moderne formal china is Pickard, rimmed in platinum, with cobalt blue and platinum chargers. I believe a dining table should be designed & set with combinations of color, shape, and textures that are specific to each meal. On my dining table, I reveal fantastic vintage pieces such as this Aynsley Set, during dessert course. The warm glow & shimmer of gold against candlelight makes a wonderful lasting impression.
