DESCRIPTION: At 141 years of age, this rare and early antique represents the beloved Royal Worcester lineage of fine porcelain pieces and collectibles. Since 1751 when Dr. John Wall and William Davis founded The Worcester Tonquin Manufactory, their efforts to establish high-quality porcelain production and luxurious pieces was a great success. Today, we enjoy beautiful Royal Worcester porcelain, both past and present, of spectacular and lasting design.
From a Private Collection, the antique Royal Worcester Butterfly Vase with Handles is an earlier example of the finest in porcelain production and china painting. On pristine white porcelain, the artist has skillfully created naturalistic butterflies of varying colors, set amidst an abundance of gilt. Flowers adorn the vase, each skillfully handpainted in colors and gold, predominately shades of blues. The piece is glazed with a high gloss that has brilliantly preserved each brush stroke.
The antique porcelain blank is molded into a spectacular dimensional piece. The shape of the vase is gentle with flared ornate top and square ornate base. The most striking design element is the twisted 'rope', gilded, that surrounds the vase and forms the handles. The details of these handpainted elements on glimmering white porcelain are restrained in such a way they become secondary to the gilded dimensions. The rarity and age of this piece is exceptional.
The manufacturing and design of this piece is significant and a testament to talented artists that paved the way for today’s Royal Worcester designs and creations.
