DESCRIPTION: Created by one of Pickard’s most talented and prolific artists, Maxwell Rean Klipphahn, this antique cabinet or dessert plate provides a snapshot into his impressive endeavors. This is one of my favorite Pickard artists for many reasons and especially because of his energetic passion for the art of bringing stills to life. This particular pattern is ‘Autumn Currants’ with autumn leaves amidst a background of fall colors, muted greens mixed with shades of yellow and pink. The hard paste fine porcelain blank is rimmed in a very generous gilded application.
‘Autumn Currants’ originated around 1905 and remains a popular pattern that graces antique Pickard collections worldwide. It is beautifully detailed and vibrant in color. Other pieces of this pattern include punch bowl & goblets, vanity sets, lemonade jugs, plates, serving and decorative pieces. Please see other “Autumn Currants’ pieces on my site and if you are just beginning your Pickard collection, this affordable piece is a beauty!
Pickard China ranks among the finest china made anywhere in the world. Over the years, it has been selected to produce exclusive fine china services for heads of state and many prestigious hotels, restaurants and corporations including Air Force One, Camp David, Blair House and the United Nations. The King of Saudi Arabia, the U.S. Air Force and the Queen of England are among a few who have chosen Pickard for their finest dining (source: Pickardchina).
WHY I LIKE IT: Early Pickard pieces have historical significance representing the entrepreneurial spirit of the United States and this exceptional American company. “Autumn Currants” is perfect for your dining table during the Fall harvest season.
