DESCRIPTION: This antique cake plate, by the well-known Limoges artist, Max, represents fine artistry and details painted with keen ability.
The back of this piece is imperfect; however it carries significance in the artist’s historical value and fine reputation within the Limoges family of talented china painters. If you are a new Limoges collector, this is a well-priced piece to consider.
On white porcelain, the plate’s design is brilliant yet simple. Under a soft glaze, wild violets are arranged with a carefree sweep of delicate brush strokes, subtle shades of color are mixed with vibrant purple hues. The background fades from soft white into pinks and blues with accents of shadowy purple leaves. The beauty of this piece is accented with a 1/8” rim of gilding that was carefully applied to define the plate and elegant handles.
We have photographed in various lighting: daytime and evening, to capture the beautiful luster of the glaze and gilding.
WHY I LIKE IT: The design is subtle yet detailed…a lovely piece to display as a cabinet plate or to serve an assortment of French macarons. I always display desserts with seasonal plates and this one is an excellent choice to include in your personal collection of dessert plates and entertaining pieces.
