DESCRIPTION: This antique Limoges Bowl is intricate in every way. The shape is fluted and has depth, with particular emphasis on a lavish wide gilt rim border embellished with secondary design. On a cream color glaze, there are four violet clusters of florals transferred to the bowl and handpainted with accents of fine gold accent lines. The rim is rococo in styling within the blank and finishing details, and the bottom is trimmed in a very fine line of gilt. The photos show this piece has not lost its soft sheen over the decades; it is an elegant piece.
WHY I LIKE IT: The violet clusters have an art deco placement amidst a very fancy gilding and design presentation. Whether you show this antique porcelain in a display cabinet or place in your master suite, the decorative bowl is one you’ll appreciate and enjoy.
Backstamp(s): Elite Works Limoges France (in red) 1890-1932; Elite France (in green) 1887-1915; Merignac (in gold, overglaze).
DIMENSIONS: 10” x 9” x 2” deep
CONDITION: Very Good. This antique bowl has no cracks, repairs or crazing. It exhibits one tiny fleabites underneath rim (not detectable in top view), and manufacturing anomalies. There is also slight loss of gilt at various design points and two fine lines of gilt separation from manufacturing. Overall, this antique bowl is in very good condition and a beautiful display piece.
