Here is a splendid set that displays very well the consummate artistry of the Berlin porcelain factory. Plants rise from the base, arranged "en terasse." This approach to flower painting derives ultimately from garden murals found in houses in Pompeii. There, artists painted the walls surrounding the atrium gardens with flowers lined up as if in raised terrace beds, rather than as bouquets. These painted flowers on the surrounding walls made the garden appear larger than it was.

This set really speaks for itself, so for once (ha) I’ll leave the description to a minimum: the saucer is six and a quarter inches across with slight wear to the gilding; the cup is in as good condition as you will ever find. The date numerals 28 (for 1828) are impressed in the bottom of the saucer. Even if you don’t buy it, enjoy looking!
