Here is a lovely and elaborate teacup and saucer set probably made by one of the factories at Coalport in England, but the shape and design are so typical of British porcelain made in the first quarter of the nineteenth century that it could be by any of a host of makers. Whoever made it, it’s delightful and in splendid condition. The numerous flower bouquets include tulips, white and red roses and a riot of other flowers. The gilding covers nearly all the empty spaces and includes scrolls, flowers, seaweed and rings. The intense blue border sets everything off nicely. Inside the cup, the gilding of the border is repeated. The shepherd’s crook handle is also very typical of this period. The cup is near perfect, the saucer has some slight gilt wear in the well only, where the cup would sit. The gilding on the rims is not worn. The saucer is five and three-eighths inches across.
