This cup and saucer set displays a bold silver luster ground with transfer prints of birds. The design was made by first transfer-printing a black outline of birds and branches, then covering selected portions with a translucent yellow glaze, then adding the backdrop in opaque silver luster. The English potters were always mixing and matching glaze techniques to achieve new effects, hoping that one or another approach would catch on mightily with the public. There is noticeable wear to the decoration on one side, as shown in the photo.
