James Bakewell, employed as a painter by Josiah Wedgwood, was well known for his monochrome painting of flowers, and the superb renderings of these daffodils and other spring flowers suggest strongly that he is the artist of this attractive set, or else someone who could imitate him very accurately. This cup and saucer are near perfect, with slight crazing. It’s possible that this is unmarked Wedgwood, but it could be by another one of the other higher quality potteries.
