Here is a splendid antique porcelain cup and saucer with exuberant painted flowers that are typical of Meissen flowers at their finest. This “Deutsche blumen” style of flower painting took hold in the mid-18th century and is still fresh and exciting today. The extravagantly shaped handle is especially nice. The set here has brown rims, one large bouquet on each piece and various sprigs. Date is about 1740-50. There is slight wear to saucer decoration and the painted rims, and the cup footrim is rough but not chipped. Quality control at the factory in 1750 noticed a flaw on the reverse of the saucer and painted a flower over it.
