Here is a matching set of cup and saucer that recall the nicer side of caring for cattle—the placid meadow of the dairy farm where no wolves attack, no thunderstorms ever threaten and there’s no lack of food. The complicated shape of this porcelain cup suggests a date of around 1830 or a little later. Both pieces are printed in dark purple with a farm scene of very sedate cows in the field, accompanied by green highlights that were added by hand after the purple was fired in the kiln. It is in excellent condition except for a hairline on the reverse of the saucer, not visible on the display side. The saucer is five and a half inches across.

A warm welcome! Please consider all our offerings, and feel free to inquire about more information. We’re always buying, so let us know if you have early porcelain items to sell.
