A wonderfully sculptural and dramatic figure on the shelf, this porcelain cockatoo seems eager to fly off his tree stump and flit around the room. Nymphenburg produced porcelain that rivaled the best European porcelain makers. Josef Wackerle was appointed artistic director of Nymphenburg at the age of 26. He created a number of porcelain statues that are still popular, though not being made today in their original form, as with this example. It is a beautiful display piece, especially for the parrot lover! It stands nearly eight inches tall and is in perfect condition with no damage or restorations. The Nymphenburg shield mark and number 413 identify the model and the manufacturer. Provenance: The Antique Porcelain Company.
