This figure of a pair of putti playing musical instruments (both now missing) is also known as the “Golden Age.” Really a charming scene even without the instruments, with the scroll of musical notation open on top of two books lying on the ground. It looks as if one of the boys is trying to write down the melody that the other boy is composing as he plays. The mark is the Frankenthal crown above the initials AB for Adam Bauer, the modellmeister from 1775-78. It is five inches tall. It has suffered some major damage. One arm has been reattached. The top of the bird’s tail is repaired, and the music scroll is replaced. Several cracks in the base have been stabilized. Half of the standing boy’s right foot has been replaced. Priced accordingly. Provenance: from the Antique Porcelain Company.
